how can two clicks be enough!?!?
think about it: JR recommends to retard your timing ~8 deg on 92 octane gas. so if you're running two clicks, that means at 6 psi you're only retarding 1.2 deg, correct? can anyone else convince me that this is enough retard? please post the settings you use (or used to use if you no longer use the BTC). i just cant convince myself that its a wiring issue since it seems to be behaving how it should, other than the fact that its off.
thanks for the reply

no. each click is per boost based. so if one click is .5 degree, that means at 6 psi it is .5 X 6, which is 3 degrees retard.
so 2 click = 6 degrees retard.

yes i realize it is boost based, however each click is .1 deg retard per pound of boost, since 10 clicks equals 1 deg retard per lb of boost. so two clicks is .2 x 6 = 1.2 deg retard.

12 o'clock is 1 degree retard per pound of boost....so at 12 o'clock and 6psi you are going to be running 6 degrees retard.
If you want to be on the safe side, use the above setting for any boost level while driving on the street. I usually kept it at that setting except when I was at the track or was running 100 octane.
Also, it sounds like your wiring is screwed, double check the wiring and make sure you download the instructions from JR's website if you have not already. The difference between a Green/Yellow wire and a Yellow/Green wire (for example) can be a pain to recognize and result in poor performance.

i'm attempting to install a JR BTC on my B16A CRX but it isnt going so well. i'm using the PR3 OBD-0 computer. basically what happens is i set the distributor timing to stock and turn the btc knob to about 12 o'clock. it drives fine out of boost, but as soon as i get on the throttle, it just makes a lot of noise out my exhaust almost like its firing through the header or something and the car has NO power at all. i find that as i turn down the knob, i gain more power. this kind of makes sense, however i feel like the only way to get all of the power would be to turn down the knob all the way which obviously isnt a good idea since the timing wouldnt be retarded at all. does anyone know what could be wrong? i'm wondering if its a wiring issue, but i've double checked everything and am out of ideas. the car runs fine when i eliminate the btc and just retard the dist to 7 deg btdc. ANY suggestions are appreciated.

I run 2 clicks from the left-most position...
95% of the time it's a wiring issue.
Try 4 clicks, and see how the response is on the butt dyno.

I would suggest that you check the throttle position wire. I can recall that I had similar issues to you when I first installed my BTC. Turning up the BTC too high when I was at 6psi resulted in a car that was VERY SLUGGISH in boost. I found the ideal setting when I was at 6 psi was 0 on the BTC. Just to let you know, my timing is at 16 degrees on 91 octane gas.
Now, at 9psi, I have my BTC at roughly 0.6-0.7 degrees/lb of boost. Now my timing is at 14 degrees.
If your car runs better with it lower, just leave it lower. If you start to hear any pinging or detonation, turn it up a click or two. Don't go by JR's instructions and set it to 1 degree, expecting it to work.

ok i finally figured it out. everyone has been telling me to use the CKP (-) for the rpm, however the only one that works right with the btc is the CKP (+). its perfect now! thanks for the replies
